The whole idea of these local and sustainable ingredients is taking NYC by storm and ABC Kitchen is right there with it.
What I really appreciate about ABC Kitchen is that it feels special and casual at the same time. As you walk into the restaurant you enter an enchanted forest with trees surrounding the table and pictures that deepen that theme. The service is pleasant and knowledgeable, yet not overbearing. There is a long bar when you walk in that’s very inviting and I would recommend stopping in with a friend to have a drink and share a pizza.
“We couldn’t pass up the fresh fettuccine with swiss chard, and pistachio pesto.”
The food here is outstanding. With every bite I felt like I tasted the season. We started with the mushroom pizza. The creamy egg on top gets mixed in with the mushrooms and the tang from the cheese all comes together perfectly. All the ingredients seep in to the dough of the pizza that has a nice char on the outside. The pizza is the perfect appetizer to share.
For the main entrée we split the pasta dish. We like our carbs! I like how you can get a smaller portion to split as well. We couldn’t pass up the fresh fettuccine with swiss chard, and pistachio pesto. It sounded and tasted so unique and unlike anything I have had before. Each layer of flavor was refreshing and I didn’t feel any guilt eating every last noodle.
Lastly, I couldn’t miss out on the most important food group, dessert. The seasonal mini apple pie with a lattice crust was perfect for the fall night. My favorite part of the apple pie was the sweet crust with the perfectly cooked apples inside that had a hint of caramel. I also couldn’t miss the popcorn sundae that ABC Kitchen is known for. There’s a reason this sundae is so popular. It’s salty, sweet, and crunchy. My favorite part of it though was the fudge that lies beneath the huge scoops of ice cream. Lastly, we were there to celebrate an anniversary, and they brought us two cute chocolate cupcakes. It was a nice touch.
ABC Kitchen has been at the top of my list of restaurants to visit and will remain there. I can’t wait to return and taste the flavors of the other seasons. They also have a brunch which I heard is not to be missed. They book up quick so make sure to reserve your spot a month ahead and enjoy!
